In 2006, Sam Shelton wanted to kill Ashley Reeves. But she lived through the attempt on her life, even though she had to freeze in the cold for 30 hours.
Her middle school teacher, Shelton, was trying to get her to have a sexual relationship with him. Eventually, she met him on the day of the attack and told him she wanted to end their abusive relationship.
Shelton didn’t want to let go, though. So, they got into a fight in the car, and during the fight, he put Reeves in a chokehold and pulled her out. She fought for a while, but after a while, she was too weak to keep going.
He pulled her and then saw that he had broken her neck. He got scared, so he pulled her into the bushes. He then began to strangle her by hand. She was still breathing when he took his hands off of her. Then, he put his belt around her neck and pulled as hard as he could until the belt broke. He used his leg as a support.
When it finally broke, he choked her one more time until he thought she was dead. Then he left her to die in the bush. She was badly hurt and left in the woods for 30 hours.
When the police found her, they thought she was dead, but she moved, so she was taken to the hospital.

Sam Shelton was given a prison sentence of 20 years to life. But when the police found out that he was the last person to talk to Reeves, they took him into custody as a minor suspect.
After 12 hours of questioning, he finally gave up after changing his story several times. He finally told her he was seeing Ashley and what he did to her.
He showed the police where he had left her, but he couldn’t remember the exact spot. Police found her and took her to the hospital, which was a good thing. After Reeves was found, he was put in jail.
He got bail and had to stay at home for a year to get ready for trial. Sam tried to kill himself once in the year. In 2007, he agreed to a deal.
