Tilapia is a species of fish that players can catch while fishing in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Players working to restore their sleepy little hamlets in the game’s eponymous valley often find themselves fishing in rivers, lakes, and the ocean to catch various fish species. While fish vary widely in terms of their energy and sell values, players can use all of them as key ingredients while cooking tasty fish-based meals and sell them at Goofy’s stall in exchange for valuable Star Coins. While Tilapia aren’t the rarest fish players can find, they can be challenging for players searching for rare ingredients that they can use to cook meals using complex recipes in Disney Dreamlight Valley, as the Tilapia appears only in two specific biomes.
Once players find the magic Fishing Rod at the start of the game, they can immediately start fishing, with the Peaceful Meadow area featuring two large ponds teeming with fish. These are particularly useful in the early game, allowing players to quickly earn Star Coins by selling any fish they catch to Goofy at his stall. Tilapia isn’t particularly rare, but players can get 600 Star Coins from selling them and gain 1150 Energy from consuming them, which are slightly greater than most other fish of the same rarity. However, they only appear in two biomes outside the village, both of which players have to spend Dreamlight to unlock.
Tilapia only appear in the Sunlit Plateau and Frosted Heights biomes, so players will need to spend time crafting Dream Shards in Disney Dreamlight Valley and completing their daily tasks. The Frosted Heights biome costs 10,000 Dreamlight to unlock, and on top of that, it’s only accessible from a path that goes through the Forest of Valor, which costs 3,000 Dreamlight. The Sunlit Plateau costs 7,000 Dreamlight, which is cheaper, although players might still have to shell out for the Frosted Heights. Dreamlight Valley’s Steam forums indicate that many players aren’t finding any fishing spots at the Sunlit Plateau, possibly due to a bug.

As such, players looking to catch Tilapia currently have to spend 13,000 Dreamlight to clear the way to the Frosted Heights biome. Like the Forgotten Lands, the Frosted Heights are one of Dreamlight Valley’s late-game biomes, where players can often find Dreamlight Valley’s rarer resources, such as ginger. Parts of the Frosted Heights are blocked off unless players have upgraded their pickaxes, but fishing spots will still appear in the river and the pond, so players don’t need to upgrade equipment to fish in this biome.
Players need to keep an eye out for bubbling fishing spots in the water to catch Tilapia, which indicates where fish have spawned in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Fishing spots generate in several colors ranging from white to gold, indicating that one of the game’s rarest fish can be caught by players who manage to beat the fishing minigame. For Tilapia, however, players should aim to cast their lines into blue fishing spots, where less common aquatic creatures such as Dreamlight Valley’s shrimp can be caught.
As always, it’s recommended players have one of their Disney Dreamlight Valley villagers with the fishing specialty accompany them on fishing trips, as this is a great way to obtain extra resources quickly.

Summary: In Disney Dreamlight Valley, players will create their own Disney avatar as they interact with some of the most iconic characters in Disney and Pixar history. The story surrounds the dream castle and the realm it resides in, which is a place where several characters, hero and villain alike, have lived together in harmony. However, an evil force known as the Forgetting consumes the kingdom. It’s up to the player to solve puzzles, reunite characters, and embark on feature-rich character storylines to save the Dream realm. Players can build their own Disney neighborhood – plant gardens, go fishing, build residences – or go on adventures in dark caverns, sail the seas, or navigate spooky forests. The choice belongs to the player as they traverse the various Disney worlds in this cozy game that takes notes from mainstays like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.
