West High School site of pepper spray incident

UPDATE: The Davenport Community School District issued an official statement about the incident at Davenport West High School:

On September 5, 2023, at approximately 2:14 p.m., an altercation occurred between two students within the main office at Davenport West High School. A school resource officer responded and while attempting to break up the altercation, was assaulted causing minor injuries. O.C. (oleoresin capsicum) spray was discharged by the officer within the main office area while taking one juvenile into custody. Davenport Fire and MEDIC EMS responded and to provide assistance to the individual impacted by O.C. spray and to the officer.

Charges are pending. No further information is available at this time.

Davenport Public Schools gave Local 4 more information about a pepper spray incident at West High School.

Local 4 has learned it started with an incident between two students. The pepper spray was discharged in the school’s main office, but the school system has not clarified who discharged the pepper spray.

An ambulance came to West to deal with those exposed to the pepper spray.
