Boyne Highlands Resort, Michigan – The hearts of all who knew her are heavy with grief as the news of Samantha Grace Olekszy’s sudden passing shakes the community. She passed away on September 10th, 2023, at the young age of 26. At the time of this publication, the cause of her death remains undisclosed.
Samantha, born on June 10, 1997, was a radiant and beloved presence in the lives of her family and friends. Her light illuminated the world around her, and her positive energy was truly infectious. She wore many hats in her life – a loving daughter, sister, cousin, and friend – and she excelled in every role she played.
From a young age, Samantha embraced a variety of interests and activities. She started with dance classes, ventured onto the softball field in middle school, and eventually found her passion in golf while in high school. Her enthusiasm for sports and her dedication led her to excel, bringing her joy and success along the way. She was not only an athlete but also held a job at a restaurant and valued spending quality time with her family. Samantha’s dedication and hard work culminated in her academic achievements, including her high school graduation from Walled Lake Western in 2015 and her college degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from Michigan State University in 2021. Her dream was to pursue a career in Event Planning, a field she was deeply passionate about.
Beyond her academic and career aspirations, Samantha had an insatiable appetite for life. She possessed a spirited, independent nature that her family wholeheartedly supported. She embarked on adventures, traveling to numerous European countries and Australia. At the age of 18, she embarked on a remarkable journey that her cousins, aunts, and uncles admired greatly. Her unstoppable spirit led her to set goals and dreams and then turn them into reality. She meticulously planned each detail, conducted extensive research, and executed her travel plans with precision. Her family watched with pride as she explored the world, welcoming her back with excitement and anticipation to hear about her adventures.
Samantha cherished the bonds she shared with her large and loving family, which included numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. While she was one of three children in her immediate family, she was one of many in her extended family. Her aunts and uncles considered her as one of their own, and her cousins regarded her as another sister. Her zest for life and her magnetic personality made every family gathering a joyous occasion. She was a driving force in creating cherished memories during cousin plays, sing-alongs, and weekend pajama parties. Samantha often took on the role of party planner, infusing life into family events and leaving an indelible mark on every celebration. Her absence will be deeply felt, and her family can’t imagine a gathering without her vibrant presence.
Samantha is survived by her loving parents, James Michael Olekszy and Heidi Marie (Greg) West, as well as her dear siblings, Celia and McLane. She was adored by her grandparents, Ms. Donna Olekszy, Mr. John Olekszy, and Jean Olekszy. Samantha was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, William and Eve Ann Dillon. Her loss is a profound one, keenly felt by her numerous family members, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her memory will forever shine brightly in their hearts.
Family and friends may gather at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, for visitation on Friday, September 15th, from 4-8pm. Her loss is deeply felt by her numerous family members, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Samantha’s memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 10 am (visitation at 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington.
