A Rock Island man was sentenced for felon in possession of ammunition.

George Harper Jr., 34, was sentenced on Tuesday, January 16 to 67 months in federal prison. According to public court documents at the time of his plea hearing, Harper was involved in a shooting incident September 3, 2022 at the Kwik Star in the 1600 block of West Kimberly Rd., Davenport. During the shooting, Harper fired multiple rounds from a firearm, which he unlawfully possessed. Prior to his possession of the ammunition, Harper had been convicted of felon in possession of a firearm in Scott County. After completing his term of imprisonment, Harper is required to serve three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department and is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
