What is Jogi about?
Jogi is an upcoming Hindi-language drama movie, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar (Sultan, Bharat and Tiger Zinda Hai) under the AAZ Films production banner.
The movie will tell the story of a community that is being ripped apart at the seams by the anti-Sikh riots that ravaged India in 1984. As noted by Gadgets360, the film is “a fictionalised biopic of sorts, recounting the horrors of the 1984 anti-Sikh protests in Delhi.”
Specifically, the movie will focus on a college student called Jogi as he cuts his hair, blends in with the rioters and devises a plan to secretly transport his people to Punjab.
Thankfully, Jogi is not alone; being joined by police officer Rawinder Chautala and friend Kaleem, who both must try to keep the plan a secret whilst avoiding rioters at all costs.
“Amid tension in 1980s India, three friends of different faiths unite in a noble yet dangerous effort to save hundreds in their town.” – Jogi synopsis, via Netflix.
However, in the midst of the riots, it comes to light that a corrupt politician called Tejpal may have incited the hatred and hired hooligans to specifically target Sikh households.
Speaking to Telegraph India, director Ali Abbas Zafar explained how “The sole purpose of making this film was to get the right emotion out.”
“When you tell a story that basically hinges at presenting different kinds of emotions at different levels, that is the authenticity, that is the core that you want to stir in your audience.” – Ali Abbas Zafar, via Telegraph India.
Jogi: OTT release date and time explained
Jogi is scheduled to release for OTT streaming via the Netflix platform on Friday, September 16th.
The movie is expected to be made available from 12:30 PM Indian Standard Time; the typical update window for all original, non-simulcast content – which has also been reported by Gadgets360.

There is also various third-party bundle offers that include a Netflix subscription, including Reliance Jio, Reliance Jio Fiber, Vodafone Idea, Airtel and Tata Play DTH.
“When you make a film, there has to be some amount of fictional liberty. But the crux of the film is the idea that one should not let go of love and hope. Everyone who came on board to make this film was only working towards that. When people walk out of the film, we hope that they will feel that no matter what happens, love will win in the end.” – Ali Abbas Zafar, via Telegraph India.
