A new big-name retailer is officially calling SouthPark Mall in Moline it’s home.
Ashley Homestore held it’s grand opening on Tuesday morning.
The furniture store opened a storefront in Davenport in 2016, and now they’re expanding their business to both sides of the river.
Moline Mayor, Stephanie Acri, as well as members of the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce and more came together for the big unveiling.
Chief Executive Officer of Furniture Mart USA, and representative of Ashley Homestore, Jim Heinitz, says the company was not deterred by retailers closing in the area. Instead, Heinitz says they see it as an opportunity.
“We’ve found that those malls that we can put an outside, direct entrance into the store and also have entrances inside of the mall are places that people are going to wander through,” said Heinitz. “And at some point in time, people look for furniture so if they’ve been through your store, even if they’re just coming in to get to the mall, it’s still a great opportunity for us.”
The new store is next to Dillards at the mall.
