The Muscatine Police Department on Tuesday announced it has charged the suspect in a Jan. 10 burglary at Welch Avenue Apartments with 12 additional counts of burglary.

The investigation into this incident has been ongoing, since the crime was discovered. Investigators have worked closely with the displaced residents of the apartment complex in an effort to identify and return property, as well as further criminal prosecution efforts, according to a Tuesday release from police.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 23rd, 2024, Miguel Salcedo, 52, was charged with an additional 12 counts of burglary in the 3rd degree, one count of trespass, and felon in possession of a firearm. In all, investigators have identified 13 victims of this incident, police said.

The burglary of Welch Avenue Apartments, 220 Iowa Ave., occurred January 10th, 2024, at approximately 3:18 p.m.

Officers searched the premises and located a suspect in apartment 306. The suspect, Salcedo, was taken into custody and charged with 3rd degree burglary as well as an unserved arrest warrant.

Upon further investigation, it is believed that multiple apartments were entered and burglarized, police said on Jan. 11. The Welch Avenue Apartments have been vacant for the past several months due to structural safety concerns with the building.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and more charges may be announced. The department will be working with the displaced victims of this incident in an effort to identify and safeguard both missing and recovered property.
