JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com -Starbucks merupakan salah satu coffee shop ternama yang kini bisnisnya telah menjamur di kota-kota besar di dunia, termasuk di Indonesia. Nama besar di balik suksesnya bisnis kopi itu adalah Howard Schultz yang merupakan orang terkaya di dunia urutan ke-988.
Howard Schultz merupakan pria kelahiran Brooklyn New York pada 1953. Di usianya yang kini 70 tahun, Howard Schultz mencatatkan jumlah kekayaan bersih sebesar 3,1 miliar dollar AS atau setara dengan Rp 56,2 triliun (kurs Rp 15.624 per dollar AS).
Mengutip Forbes Real Time Net Worth Kamis (19/1/2024), harta Schultz susut 15 juta dollar AS atau Rp 234,3 miliar, atau 0,48 persen dari jumlah kekayaan sebelumnya.
Howard Schultz mengawali kariernya dengan bekerja di Starbucks pada 1982. Dia sempat resign dan membuka usaha Il Giornale. Namun kemudian mengakuisisi bisnis Starbucks pada 1987.
Di bawah kepemimpinan Schultz, usaha coffee shop itu berubah menjadi franchise dan kini menjadi salah satu brand coffee shop yang banyak dikenal masyarakat di seluruh dunia.
Schultz menjadikan Starbucks sebagai perusahaan publik pada 1992, yang masuk dalam indeks Nasdaq, di bursa AS atau Wall Street, dengan kode SBUX.
Lewat pendanaan di bursa AS, Starbucks memperluas toko yang awalnya hanya 11 toko, menjadi 35.000 toko di seluruh dunia. Saat ini, Starbucks bukan hanya menjual produk kopi dan kue saja, namun juga menjadi social hub bagi banyak orang.
Schultz menjabat tiga kali sebagai CEO, dan terakhir kali mengundurkan diri pada awal 2023. Pada 2020. Schultz sempat ingin mencalonkan diri menjadi Presiden AS, namun upaya ini tidak terlaksana.
Schultz menikah dengan Sheri Kersch pada 1982 dan tinggal di Seattle, Washington. Keduanya memiliki putra bernama Eliahu Jordan Schultz dan seorang putri bernama Addison Schultz.
Schultz mendirikan Family Foundation yang berfokus pada investasi, pelatihan, dan perekrutan veteran, dan pemuda.
Melalui perusahaan Vanture Capital miliknya, Schultz mendiversifikasi bisnisnya dengan mendirikan beberapa usaha seperi, Groupon, Madison Reed, Allbirds, dan Lucy.
