He also played quarterback at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where their father played football. Jalen got better at football by playing with older boys in a park. He grew up in a family that was a Florida Gators fan, but he cheered for the Miami Hurricanes.
Years in high school
In his first year of high school, Ramsey went to Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Ramsey ran track in high school and won a lot of awards. At his last high school track meet on May 24, 2013, he broke the Tennessee state record in the long jump by jumping 25 feet, 3.25 inches. The old record was set in 1997, so he broke it by 16 years. As of 2016, no other TSSAA athlete has gone further than 25 feet. Ramsey ran in races like the 100-meter dash and the shot put. He ran the 100-meter dash in 10.50 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 21.44 seconds, and the 400-meter dash in 48.02 seconds. Ramsey’s personal bests in the high jump and triple jump were both 6’8″ and 47’7″. He also had a best shot put throw of 49′ 11′′.
Going to college
As a true freshman in 2013, Ramsey played in all 14 games for the Florida State Seminoles. He was the first true freshman since Deion Sanders in 1985 to start a game at cornerback for the Seminoles. Ramsey wore the number 13 jersey as a freshman when Florida State beat Auburn to win the National Championship. Later, when he was a sophomore and junior, he changed to jersey number 8. Also, during his junior year, Ramsey chose to return kickoffs in the number 17 jersey, which was retired in honor of former star Charlie Ward. Ward gave Ramsey permission to wear the number. At the end of the season, he had made 49 tackles, picked off one pass, and sacked one player. As a sophomore, Ramsey played in 14 games and had 80 tackles, two interceptions, 12 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two sacks. [16] As a junior, he played in 13 games and made 52 tackles. He had one sack, nine pass breakups, and one fumble recovery. On September 18, against Boston College, he picked up a loose ball and ran it back 36 yards for a touchdown as part of a 14–0 win. He was named a Consensus All-American for the 2015 season because of how well he played. After his junior year, he said he didn’t want to play his senior year and would instead go into the 2016 NFL Draft.
Field and track
Ramsey ran in relays and did long jumps in track and field at Florida State. As a member of the 2013 Florida State Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championship team, he was named to the All-ACC team three times. He got third place in the long jump at both the indoor and outdoor ACC Track and Field Championships. At the outdoor meet, he also ran a leg on the 4100 relay team that won the conference title. During the 2014 season, his best outdoor long jump was 25′ 0″ (7.62m), and his best indoor long jump was 24′ 11″ (7.59m). This put him in second place nationally among NCAA Division I football players. In the long jump, Ramsey did well enough to get into the NCAA East Preliminary meet. He came in third in the long jump at the 2014 ACC Indoor Championship (7.46 m).
In March 2015, Ramsey’s best jump was 26 feet, 1.75 inches “at the Indoor Championships of the NCAA. Ramsey won the ACC Long Jump Championship in May 2015 by jumping 26′ 1.5” “(7.96m), which was only three inches short of the automatic qualifying mark for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Work as a professional
NFL draft experts and scouts thought that Ramsey would be picked in the first round when he left Florida State. Ramsey was known for talking trash on and off the field, especially when he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ramsey’s trash talking led to a fight with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A. J. Green in 2017, and he and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill made fun of each other before a game between the Jaguars and Chiefs in 2018. In 2019, Ramsey got into a fight with Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf during a game against their rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. After the incident, Ramsey was neither charged with the penalty nor fined by the league. Instead, DK Metcalf was given the penalty.
