He influenced young Canadian artists such as Neil Young, Johnny Cash and Judy Collins, who produced their own versions of his song “Four Strong Winds”. Tyson’s song “One Single River” was recorded by Bob Dylan and “The Band” but was never released. He and Sylvia sang their signature song “Four Strong Winds” together at the 50th anniversary of the Mariposa Folk Festival.

Ian Tyson died on December 29, 2022 at the age of 89 on his ranch in Alberta. According to his manager, he was constantly having health problems and had once had a heart attack.
