Spotify users can now create a DNA chart for their listening habits using a fun feature hosted on N Gen.
For a long time, multiple third-party websites have allowed Spotify users to view their listening habits in a visual form. N Gen found itself in the center of social media discussion a couple of months ago by surprising music listeners with an interesting artwork for their top 10 picks. Today, we will show you how to create Spotify DNA on the same platform.
What is N Gen’s Spotify DNA?
N Gen is a website that generates a unique DNA sequence based on your listening habits on Spotify. The double-stranded helix depends on the artists and songs you’ve played the most and displays a list of attributes to define your taste.
The website notes you can “turn your favorite artists into a sequence of Spotify traits with a rarity score to highlight the uniqueness of your top artists.”
Your rarity score and DNA sequence are determined based on factors that define your taste in music the best – such as Danceability, Energy, Mood, Instrumentalness, Acousticness and Wordiness.
How to create DNA sequence for your listening habit
You can find the N Gen website by looking it up on Google directly or by clicking on the link to the website. You need to log in using your Spotify credentials and that will direct you to the main page.
Once you’re logged in, you need to select ‘Create’ from the options under the hamburger icon on the top right. The new feature, DNA, appears on the top. Click on it to create your own.
The sequence of your DNA is created based on the below listening habits you select:
- Top Artists Last Month
- Top Artists Last 6 Months
- Top Artists All Time
- Recently Played Tracks
- Create with your Favorite Playlists
All you need to do is select one of the above options to create a DNA for your music habits within a certain period and click on Next Page.
There are also different themes to choose from for the final art, which can be shared with your friends and fellow Spotify users.
User react to N Gen’s new feature
The final DNA chart for each Spotify user on N Gen is highlighted by different aspects of their listening habits placed on either end of the twisted ladder.
The symbols representing Energy, Mood and more highlight the genre of music that dominates your listening habit, with the name of the artists mentioned next to the DNA chart.
Several Spotify users have taken to X to show off their results.
“My Spotify DNA strand looks so good!”, said one.
Another said: “Ya’ll should try the Spotify DNA thingy. TayTay is ruling my chart.”
“N Gen’s DNA chart for Spotify is super fun,” wrote one.
