Horrible Bosses and its sequel are two of the best comedies of the past few years, and they are made even better by its almost-titular characters. Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, and Jennifer Aniston all play these treacherous employers that ruin their employee’s lives, whether it’s with sexual abuse or because of their small-man syndromes.

Thanks to the extreme power moves they pull on their poor victims, the bosses have become meme gold, as has Charlie Day, the actor who plays, Dale, who is always uncomfortable when his boss is continuously trying to pursue him.

My Idea

It’s happened to all of us when an employee has noticed a flaw in the work method or a way to improve day to day business, and when it’s brought to the middle manager, that idea is implemented and no credit is given to the employee whose idea it was. Colin Farrell is completely made up of this energy and plays a middle manager perfectly, and that’s why it’s one of the actor’s best roles.

How To Kill The Boss

Horrible Bosses Meme

As the whole plot of Horrible Bosses revolves around three employees trying to murder their bosses who make their lives miserable, memers were quick to connect the movie with It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, the hilarious TV show Charlie Day stars in. Emanating from one of the show’s best episodes, in which Charlie confusingly tries to uncover a mystery that doesn’t exist, it leaves the masses perplexed, and it works well with the characters’ nonsensical plot to assassinate their bosses.

The ATM

Horrible Bosses Meme

In the movie, it’s revealed that Colin Farrell’s character of Bobby doesn’t really own the company, but it is actually owned by his father. However, after his father passes away, Bobby becomes the sole owner of the company and makes his employees do all the work, even making Kurt fire people on his behalf. Meanwhile, Bobby collects all the money that the business makes, that’s if it makes anything after he’s fired everyone.

Band-Aids On Your Nipples

Kevin Spacey is great at playing a horrible boss, as it’s not the first time he’s done so. He famously played John Williamson in Glengarry Glen Ross, but in that movie, some of the employees were just as bad. However, none of his previous roles ever had as many ridiculous statements as his character Dave does.

Having been one of the most popular quotes of the movie ever since its release, fans were quick to put together this hilarious collage of exactly what Dave meant, and though he said it more figuratively than literally, it’s still hilarious nevertheless.

Flexible Scheduling

Horrible Bosses Meme

Sometimes, when an employer says one thing, they tend to mean the opposite, and that couldn’t be any more literal here. And there’s nobody more likely to say that than Bobby, the boss who literally tries to “fire the fat people” and “get rid of Professor Xavier,” meaning the wheelchair-bound employee. When employees mean flexible scheduling, sometimes that’s true, but if viewers work for somebody like Bobby, it could mean something else.

Politics

Horrible Bosses Meme

Though the term “maneater” might be out of place for Kelly Ann Conway and it doesn’t make total sense, the idea of Trump being one of the movie’s Horrible Bosses is hilarious. And it makes a great idea for a political version of the movie too. It’d be something that’s totally in Armando Iannucci’s wheelhouse, who is the creator of Veep and The Thick of It, two of the greatest political sitcoms ever made.

Looking At The Boss Funny

Horrible Bosses Meme

We’ve all been there and had that boss who you can’t figure out if he/she likes you or not, and even possibly whether to look at them. When it comes to bosses like Bobby, employers laugh with them only t0 snarl at them behind their backs, but sometimes it can be impossible to hold back facial expressions that show real emotions. It’s unlikely that many people have been fired for looking at their boss funny, but the contempt they have is real.

The Real Reason People Watched The Movie

When Horrible Bosses was first released in 2011, the movie overperformed at the box office, as it made almost $210 million worldwide, and it’s no secret how the movie made so much money off a budget of just $35 million.

Jennifer Aniston all but made the marketing campaign for the movie, as her bare-all character was thrown over all the trailers, and it ended up being one of Aniston’s highest grossing movies according to Box Office Mojo.

Corporate Bosses’ Jealousy

Of course, the reason why Bobby is like how he is because he’s a product of his environment and his upbringing, as are all managers. Chances are they’ve been dealt a bad hand in life and the only way they can vent is by taking it out on the people below them. Bobby’s anger could completely be down to his miserable comb-over, but the character’s make up is great and Farell’s willingness to look like a fool is one of the reasons why he’ll make a great Penguin in the upcoming Batman movie.

“I Can’t, I’m Married”

Horrible Bosses Meme

Though it isn’t quite true and it’s a huge assumption, not many men have been in a room with Jennifer Aniston biting their ear. In the movie, Jennifer Aniston’s role as Julia is constantly coming on to Dale and trying to seduce him even though she knows he’s married, but that doesn’t stop her and it actually makes her try harder. The fact that Dale doesn’t play right into her hands is a dead giveaway that the movie is a work of fiction.
