Former Iowa Hawkeyes basketball player Ahmad Wagner announced Tuesday on social media where his college career in football will start: Kentucky.
“First off I would like to thank God for the blessing and opportunity he has put in front of me,” Wagner tweeted. “…with that being said after much thought and consideration from my family I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Kentucky!”
Wagner started seven games and played in 30 during the Hawkeyes’ 14-19 season, but averaged the lowest minutes total of his career at 9.1 per game.
This after being named the team’s Most Improved Player and being awarded the inaugural Kenny Arnold Hawkeye Spirit Award in 2016-17. Wagner averaged 16 minutes a game and started 18 of them for a 19-15 Iowa team that lost in the second round of the NIT.
He shot 68 percent from the field in 2015-16 as the Hawkeyes finished 22-11. For his career, Wagner averaged 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds.
