According to sources close to the former couple, the divorce was filed in Colorado earlier this year. However, the court records were never made public as the couple had always kept the information private. The insider also revealed to the newspaper that the couple has remained in touch since raising three children together. James and Francesca met in 1992 and married in 1997. They have a son Castor and two daughters Cali (20 years old) and Marcella (16 years old). The singer and his family are said to live in Vail, Colorado, Francesca’s hometown.

He went on to say that Francesca “kicked” him out of the house and forced him to seek treatment to solve his problem:
“My wife kicked me out of the house, and I am living alone elsewhere.” That’s not what I wanted… [My wife] did the right thing by kicking me out of the house, it scared the hell out of me. ‘Hey, now you don’t simply go to a therapist and talk about this,’ she added. You have to go somewhere and solve this problem.’ That is exactly what I did.”
James Hetfield is said to have been sober since 2002. Previously, he mentioned that Francesca had assisted him with his personal problems in a “constructive way”. In 2005, the musician told NPR that his wife supported him to “grow up” as he was “straight out” with his addiction and temper. Unfortunately, James and Francesca Hetfield’s love affair ended earlier this year, although the couple has yet to officially announce their divorce.
