Doris Hoskins Murder Case: Mark Andrew, Her Husband Was Also Involved In This Crime

In the early hours of January 8, 2016, 43-year-old Doris Hoskins was discovered dead in a pool of blood in her Texas home. When the detectives arrived, they found that a hammer that was found at the murder scene had been used to inflict several blunt force injuries on her body and head.

Several circumstantial pieces of evidence led to her husband, Mark Andrews, being named as the primary suspect. He killed Hoskins, it was discovered during an examination into her death.

The most recent episode of the true-crime program American Monster on Investigation Discovery, which aired on July 10 at 9 p.m. and 8 pm, focused on the circumstances behind the violent killing of Hoskins.

In what way was Doris Hoskins killed?

Don, who shared a residence with the couple along with Amy and Doris Hoskins, contacted 911 at around 4:30 am after discovering Hoskins covered in blood.

When detectives got to the scene of the murder, they saw hammer wounds all over Doris’ body and decided that her death might have been a homicide. Since it was thought that her husband Mark was in the same room as Hoskins when he was killed, their focus instantly moved to him. Later, in the same room, investigators discovered the hammer as well.

When questioned, Mark admitted that he thought his wife’s murder had been committed by an intruder. Contradictory evidence, however, suggested differently. Although the safe’s door was open at the time, there were no traces of a forced entry inside the home or in the safe. At the time, the couple lived with dogs, so if there had been an intruder, the dogs would have barked, but they didn’t.

Having a defense, Mark Andrews

Whenever Mark Andrews was questioned, he was prepared with an alibi. On the night of the murder, Andrews informed investigators that he had left for his usual casino at around 2:15 am. But after 2 hours, he had to go back because he had forgotten to bring his gambling money.

A surveillance camera put in place at the neighborhood gas station showed Andrews there at the same time the murder occurred, as he had said.

Investigators believe that the video evidence, together with a text message that Andrews sent to Hoskins prior to leaving for home, served as an alibi set up by Andrews.

Andrews’ patterns of gambling

Investigators claim that Hoskins expressed concern to her friends about Andrews’ propensity for gambling as well as her possible divorce. Investigators think Andrews lost money over time while also spending a significant amount of time at his regular casino.

In their family, Hoskins was the sole provider of income. She had set aside $300,000 on a life insurance policy and named Andews’ as a beneficiary with the family’s future in mind.

Investigators assumed that Hoskins’ murder was committed for the insurance money. After a comprehensive investigation, Mark Andrews was convicted guilty of his wife’s murder in February 2018 and given a life sentence. In 2046, he will be eligible for parole.

Hoskins was married three times before she was married to Mark Andrews. She adopted a daughter and wed Andews in 2010. Hoskins’ prior marriages produced two daughters for her.
