A home in Bettendorf may be uninhabitable after a fire yesterday, but all the family dogs were safe.

Bettendorf firefighters were called to a structure fire in the 7200 block of Genesis Way on Saturday, February 10 at about 5:39 p.m. Crews quickly extinguished the fire on the outside of the home, checked for fire extension in the walls and attic and searched all levels of the home. The residents were home at the time of the fire and escaped with two of their three dogs. The third dog was rescued by fire crews during the interior search.

No injuries were reported but the home is uninhabitable due to heavy fire and smoke damage. The townhome next door was not damaged. An initial investigation shows the fire appears to have started on the exterior backside of the home. Davenport Fire Department, Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department, Riverdale Fire Department and Medic EMS of Scott County provided mutual aid.
