Breel Embolo was born on February 14, 1997 in Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon. When he was young, his parents separated, and when he was five or six years old, his mother moved to France to study. She met her future husband, a Swiss citizen, while she was there. The family moved to Basel the following year. On December 12, 2014, he became a Swiss citizen. His girlfriend Naomi gave birth to daughter Naliya in June 2018.

In 2013, he joined Basel, a team in the Swiss Super League. This is his first time playing professionally. During his three years at Basel, he made 91 appearances and scored 31 goals.

Then he moved to the Bundesliga and in 2016 he joined Schalke 04. After 3 good years with Schalke, he moved to Borussia Monchengladbach, one of the best teams in the league. Embolo played in the German Premier League from 2019 to 2022 and scored 25 goals in 106 games. He moved to AS Monaco in the summer of 2022-2023.
