Mueller and Truschinski met on the set of A Christmas Carol when they played opposite each other. They appeared in a play at the Goodman Theater in Chicago, where she played Belle and he played the young Scrooge. In the play, they are lovers. When asked if people knew they were “connecting,” the Candy star said: “I don’t think so.” “We were extremely pleased with that,” she said, adding that “actually nothing” happened until after the show was over. They just saw each other as great people and didn’t feel ready to date at first.

The actress continued, “It’s like we’re married. Their lives change dramatically when they move to New York (where they currently reside) and he remains by her side. He has attended several Tony Awards with her, and aside from public appearances, they have led a quiet, reclusive life together. Except for red carpet events, the only time they are seen together is on his Instagram and even then, it’s not that often.
